Index of Mylrea Wills

The wills listed here provide a reasonably comprehensive snapshot of all Mylrea wills on the Isle of Man until the early 1900s. It is the sum of several sources - many transcriptions are already available on Brian Lawson's BMD in the members' section of the IOMFHS; summaries of other wills can be found in the Index to Will Summaries in A Manx Note Book; Ian Radcliffe's Manx Wills, Marriage Contracts and other Documents hosts the work of Brian Lawson (and more), and Canadian Jim Smith's wonderfully eclectic site All Things Manx provides amongst other things transcriptions of Manx wills. Also the first 16 Mylrea wills in the Index were referenced on Robert Cannell's site, Manx Manorial Roll, and have been included here for completeness although their eventual transcription will be challenging. Other specialist sites such as the Burials at Old Lonan Churchyard give further clues to the deaths of Mylreas on the island, but of course no wills.

The notation TBF means that the will is yet To Be Found.

NOTE: On many occasions, an individual was left ½ cow which might seem odd. However, Frances Coakley explains “Every cow being left to several persons had to have a certain amount of grazing land associated thus had more implied worth - likewise the joint owners did not take a cleaver to said cow (unless possibly an old animal) but shared the milk, butter + cheese - and to get these, the cow had to produce a calf”.
